William Bennett Scale - The best of the conventional modern scales designed by one of the world’s premier flutists for the most exacting performance demands. Stable, balanced and flexible, this scale is widely used world-wide.

John Coltman Designed Scale - Designed especially for the DAVID WIMBERLY FLUTES by the renowned acoustician Dr. John Coltman.  This is the smoothest scale ever developed with the least difference between notes. It has a very solid relation between the octaves. The Coltman C# brings the C# into tune without having to bend the note, without the usual veiled sound and with no change in fingering.

Both scales deliver consistent intervals and a true relationship between octaves.

Open-Hole - This provides numerous, creative options for finger slides, flutters, partial closures and cross fingerings useful for extended techniques. Some players enjoy the feeling of the air vibrating under their fingers. The tradition for open-holes on silver flutes was influenced by the older wooden flutes which used open holes extensively.

Closed-Hole - you may wish to consider a closed-hole flute, especially if you have hand problems. Experts  maintain, with excellent reasons, that the closed-hole flute is acoustically superior.

One-Half Offset G-A - This option lessens the bend in the left wrist.  Since this is only half as far off-set as in student flutes, benefits of the In-Line are retained, but without the problems. If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis or other problems or tensions, the One-Half Offset G-A is highly recommended. It is also helpful to lessen your chances of ever developing these problems.

C# Trill - This is an extra tone hole located between the C# and the thumb which enhances and simplifies various trills, notes and octaves. My advanced design puts the C# trill touch piece next to the standard upper trill touch piece, allowing the player to comfortably work both together or separately with one finger.

Split E - Improves the high E stability, intonation and articulation by bridging from the E to the G# Vent Cup. Mine is underslung beneath the F and F# cup arms so you don’t have to stretch more to reach over it as on most instruments. Best combined with C# Trill.

Insert in G# Vent Hole - A far simpler and less costly method of improving the high E almost as much as the Split-E, but with a slight flattening of the A only some notice. Less mechanism for nearly as much benefit.

Combination B/C Foot - For the slightly brighter sound the C Foot gives to the flute, while allowing the low B note when needed.

Synthetic/Skin Pads - Durable and reliable. Traditional bladder skin wrapped over a synthetic pad, using modern techniques to seat.

JS Gold Surface Pads - Gold plated. Even better for durability, reliability and response: warm, focused, full and resonant sound of gold. Custom made for each flute.
